Magic Kingdom was the first Walt Disney World theme park. It opened October 1, 1971 and has been known as the “Happiest place on earth” ever since. It mimics Disneyland in Anaheim, California however there are many differences. If you have the opportunity to visit both parks the most obvious thing you notice walking down Main Street USA is that at Disneyland you cannot see the castle until you are much closer. That is because the castle is much smaller at Disneyland than Disney World.
If you were visiting for the day, you will park in the Magic Kingdom parking lot and then take a tram to the Transportation and Ticket Center. From there you may either take a boat or the monorail across the lake to Magic Kingdom. There are two monorails. One that travels directly back and forth to the Magic Kingdom and the other monorail stops at the hotels along the route. The ferry boat just runs back-and-forth to and from the park.
Once you are at the actual park entrance, those people carrying bags, backpacks, and purses have to go through the security checkpoint. After you pass through security you then get to the actual entrance gates where you now can use your Magic band for entry or a ticket.
Upon going through the gates, the first thing you see is the Walt Disney World Railroad high above on the platform which will take you around the entire park. It has stops in Frontierland, Fantasyland and back at Main Street USA.
There’re six official areas at Magic Kingdom. These are Main Street, USA, adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. It is highly recommended that you pick up a map at the front of the park. You will find maps in multiple languages (so make sure you pick up the right one) as you pass through the tunnels that go under the Walt Disney World railroad.
Magic Kingdom Lands and their Rides
In Adventureland you find the Swiss family tree house, the Magic carpet ride, Enchanted Tiki room where the birds sing for you, The jungle cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Next door to Adventureland is Frontierland. There you will find Splash Mountain, Tom Sawyer Island which is a great exploration experience for younger children, Big thunder Mountain Railroad and Country bear jamboree.
Moving on clockwise, next you come to Liberty Square. There you will find the River boat, Hall of presidents and of course the Haunted mansion. The Haunted mansion has recently added some interesting things in the wait line for you to do and see.
Adjacent to the haunted mansion is fantasyland. Fantasyland is always one of the most crowded areas as there is so much to see and do there. There are so many there we will just mention a few of the rides.
One that usually has a shorter wait time bit is still a fan favorite is it’s a Small World. One ride that typically has a long wait time is Peter Pan’s Flight. Of course the Carousel is in the center of Fantasyland and it usually does not have too long of a wait line. And we can’t forget the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh or the Mad Tea Party. Of course Dumbo the flying elephant is still a favorite and the newer rides of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Under the Sea journey of the Little mermaid shouldn’t be missed.
And last but not least is of course Tomorrowland. There you will find kids favorites with the Tomorrowland Speedway where they can drive their own car, the Astral Orbiter which zooms around high up in the air, Buzz Lightyear where you can shoot the aliens, the Carousel of Progress and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority previously known as the People mover. They also have Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor and Stitches Great Escape and of course thrill seekers cannot miss Space Mountain.

What you may or may not know is that Disney World has four different theme parks. To rent a scooter from Disney you must go inside the theme park. They are at the front of each park just past the entry gates.
They are rented on a first come first served basis so you must get there early as during busy days they sell out quickly. If you plan to park hop which means go to more than one park in the same day, you must turn in your scooter at the first park and then pick up another one once you get to your next park which will be provided at no additional charge if you keep your receipt and they have one available.
The cost has remained steady for the last couple of years at $50 for the day plus a refundable $20 key deposit. However you may want to double check right before going in case there has been a price increase.
If you absolutely have to have a scooter, since you cannot reserve a scooter from Disney, you may want to rent one yourself from external company. The rate will depend on the type of scooter and number of days renting.
Make sure to ask the company you rent from about battery-life, meaning will it last a full day and also about their service should you have a break down. Ask if they come INSIDE, not just to the ticket gates, but INSIDE the park to service you. And lastly what hours they are available for customer service and technical support. Disney can be open till the wee hours of the morning and you should use a scooter rental company that can match those hours.

What Size Scooter Fits on Disney World Buses?

Disney World has 3 modes of transportation to consider, Buses, Boats and of course the Monorail system. The requirement for transporting a mobility scooter on public transportation is dictated by he Federal American Disabilities Act Law. It says that public transportation must accommodate any approved handicap transportation device such as a wheelchair, power chair or mobility scooter aka electronic convenience vehicle ECV, that fits within the space of 30 inches wide by 48 inches long.
There are many ADA approved ECVs that do not fit within those dimensions. You do not have to fit within those dimensions for an ECV to be an approved device but if you want to take one on public transportation such as Disney World buses, certain boats and the monorail, your device must fit within that dimension.
To measure the size of ECVs for their buses, Disney World has painted boxes that scooter riders can pull into to easily assess they fit within the size guidelines. It is very important to note here that for every box I have personally measured (and I have measured many of them at Disney World) it is the outside of the painted lines that are the 30 x 48 inches.
If you decide to bring your own scooter from home and it does not fit within those dimensions, I suggest you consider which of the 4 Disney World theme parks you plan to spend the most time at and choose your hotel accordingly. For instance if you stay at one of the EPCOT resorts you can visit both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios without ever needing to get on a bus. Also you can get to Magic Kingdom by riding through EPCOT from the International Gateway entrance located between England and France and traveling to the main EPCOT entrance and exit to take the Monorail to Magic Kingdom. To ride the Monorail with your scooter they will place down a steel ramp for you to ride onto it and they seem to bit a little less fussy about the size but technically they could deny you access.
All 6 Scooter Vacations models fit within the designated 30 x 48 inch size however for the Dream model with its unique motorcycle type look and large wheels which provides a great turn ratio and smooth ride, you do have to turn the handle bars all the way to the side for the front wheel to turn to a 45 degree angle to fit.
