Q. What types of scooters does Scooter Vacations offer?
A. We have the largest selection of any scooter rental company. We have 6 models to choose from. All models fit on Disney World or Universal Studios Florida buses and four models also come apart and easily fit in a car or taxi trunk. It is imperative to select a scooter that will accommodate the weight of the heaviest rider to ensure adequate battery capacity for a full day of vacation activities. Please visit our home page to view weight capacities and be sure to view our demonstration videos.
Q. Are Scooter Vacations scooters easy to drive?
A. Yes, very easy, requiring the use of your finger or thumb to move the scooter forward and in reverse. All our scooters feature built in brake systems which activate when you release the handle. The Snap, Dart, Dash and Destination are all thumb drive models and the Distinction and Dream are finger drive models.
Q. How fast do they travel?
A. Our thumb drive models have either a speed control knob and the finger drive have a turtle and rabbit switch. In rabbit mode your scooter can reach a max speed of about 4.4 mph (7.0 km/h). Always select to ride in turtle mode while traveling with walking companions or navigating through crowds to prevent your scooter from speeding past your cohorts or endangering other pedestrians. As the rider you directly control your scooter's speed by pulling on the forward lever, similar to how hard you press on the gas pedal of a car.
Q. Can I take my rental scooter in my car or a taxi?
A. The Snap, Distinction, Dart and Destination all disassemble and reassemble or fold-up for lightweight and easy transportation. For more information please visit our video clips of each unit type and the break down and reassemble process.
Q. Which model is best if I am staying on-property and am only going to use on-property transportation?
A. For guests staying on Walt Disney World or Universal Studios property and using on-property transportation you may want to consider our specialty on-property model, The Dream, if you would like something less medical-looking, that has definite curb appeal with its creative flare and styling. But if that's not your cup of tea, all of our models are great for on-property use and there is no worry about disassembling your scooters: simply ride your scooter onto the shuttle bus, boat or monorail and away you go!
Q. How do I pay for my Scooter Vacations rental scooter? What is the cancellation policy?
A. Scooter Vacations accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover card. Although many of our clients place orders several months in advance, we only charge the first day rental to reserve a scooter, refundable up to 48 hours prior to the designated rental date and time. We do not charge your card for the remaining balance due until 24 hours before your requested scooter rental begin time.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. We have a 48 hour cancellation policy.
Q. Where do you deliver and pick up?
A. Scooter Vacations delivers to, and picks up from, locations throughout Orlando area including hotels, condos, private homes and airline baggage claim areas. If you are staying at a hotel, the equipment will be at the hotel's luggage room with your name on it; just tell the hotel clerk at check-in to claim your scooter. If you're staying in a hotel or resort, just return your scooter to the front desk or bellhop as specified by your hotelier and we'll take it from there; please don't leave your scooter inside your room when you check out. If your scooter is not at the pick-up location at your designated time, you will be charged for an extra rental day plus a supplementary pick-up fee. If you request an equipment delivery or pick-up at a private home or other location that requires you to be present, please call us immediately if you find you must reschedule to avoid incurring extra fees.
Q. Is there a fee for delivery and pick up?
A. Scooter Vacations provides free delivery & pickup to area hotels that are within 10 miles of the Orlando Amusement Parks for rentals of 3 days or longer. Free delivery within the same area also to Timeshare and Villa Rental Properties where a front desk/lobby, concierge or bell captain station is available for delivery and pick up. Delivery to private homes or villas or a "specific time" delivery for a meet or at the Orlando airport are available and happily accommodated for rentals of 3 days or more at no additional charge.
Q. Will my scooter run all day without recharging the batteries?
A. Yes, but don't forget to drive your scooter into your quarters every night in order to charge the batteries for the next day's use. Also, your weight and the hours you desire to operate your scooter each day directly affect the charge life of the batteries. Please be accurate when listing the rider's weight on the rental form and provide as many details as possible about your intended use so that we may provide you with the most appropriate equipment, accessories and instructions. We're sorry, but we'll be forced to charge a delivery fee if we need to deliver an extra set of batteries in the event you forget to charge those that come with your scooter.
Q. What if I change hotels during my stay?
A. You may take your scooter to your new hotel and give us a call so we'll know where to pick it up.
Q. Can I leave my scooter for short periods while in the theme parks?
A. Absolutely. Just take your scooter ignition key with you when you get off the scooter. No other scooter rental company has the same key as ours. Your scooter will have your name laminated on a nice placard and secured to your scooter, so there's no worries about determining which scooter is yours.
Q. I have a disability. Is there anything special I should know when I visit the parks?
A. You should take a moment to consult with the theme park's guest services center to find out about special accommodations for guests with disabilities. Certain attractions have special entrances to accommodate scooter users, and on some rides you may be able to ride your scooter while in line to the boarding area or even onto the ride itself.
Q. Can I bring my Scooter Vacations scooter on my cruise?
A. Yes, all cruise ships departing from Port Canaveral welcome Scooter Vacations scooters. Some cruise lines will ask you to leave your scooter plugged into an outlet in the hallway outside your stateroom to charge at night while others require you to charge your scooter in your room, so please speak with your travel agent or cruise line to confirm the appropriate policy. Whatever the case, our Distinction folds up in seconds for compact storage, perfect for cruise ship stateroom accommodations.
